Vegan Restaurants

October 4th, 2018

One of the luxuries of living at AV8 in Little Italy, San Diego is being close to so many restaurants. Even better, there is so much variety and that includes all sorts of vegan restaurants.

Cafe Gratitude San Diego

Take for instance Cafe Gratitude located around the corner at 1980 Kettner Blvd. Their chill, modern interior is so welcoming it will have you staying way after you have finished your meal. Speaking of, their menu is outstanding. That especially goes for the eggplant caponata. Also, they have great hours as they are open from 8 AM to 10 PM. However, their most classic dishes are their breakfasts. So, for anyone looking for a great brunch on the weekends, Cafe Gratitude is the place for you.

Up next on our list of vegan restaurants is Veggilish in Downtown. Another spot with great decor and indoor/outdoor seating, Veggilish has good vibes all around. Best of all, it works in the same way as poké does where you customize your own bowl. Starting with a base of a number of selections, you build it up until you have created the veggie bowl of your dreams. Do note that their chipotle mayo is the best out of all of their dressings.

Our third best vegan restaurant is Soulshine. Located in Mission Beach, the drive will be worth it as they have some fantastic vegan burgers. Of them all, we cannot get enough of the Beach Burger. In addition to that, we suggest pairing it with their mojito styled lemonade. If you are craving Soulshine but don’t want to leave Little Italy, you are in luck. They deliver! Lastly, do note that the price points are bit higher than the others.

Native Foods Cafe

Over in Balboa Park is Native Foods Cafe. Open from 11 AM to 10 PM, they are serving up some savory vegan dishes. Take for instance the Bangkok Curry Bowl. It includes seared tofu steak with steamed veggies and coconut milk curry. You also cannot go wrong with their Native Double Cheeseburger.

Civico 1845

The last of the vegan restaurants on our list is Civico 1845. A neighbor of ours, they are located on 1845 India Street and are giving you some classic Italian dishes. Here, you have the opportunity to dine with non-vegan friends as they are both vegan and non-vegan friendly. That said, they have a delicious mushroom calamari and all of their pasta is fresh and made from scratch.

Lastly, we do have one honorable mention and that is Original Herbivore. Unlike the rest, it is a food truck. Best of all, it stays in Little Italy on 1100 Kettner Blvd. In regards to the menu, their Reuben sandwich is outstanding. Regardless if you are vegan or not, so many delicious, meatless dishes await you. Happy eating!
