As the days continue to get hotter, there are going to be times when we just want to sit back, relax, and keep it cool. One of the best ways to make that happen near AV8 is to visit any of the theaters in San Diego. Now, there are plenty to choose from. That said, here are the best theaters to visit near Little Italy to stay entertained and cool on those hot summer days.

The Old Globe Theater at Balboa Park

San Diego Theaters

We already know how reliable Balboa Park is when it comes to museums and gardens. However, it is also home to one of the most historic theaters in all of San Diego. More specifically, The Old Globe Theater. Built in 1935, this magnificent building was inspired by Shakespeares Old Globe in London. With 15 productions year round, the Old Globe Theater is a great spot to catch both classic and contemporary shows. At the moment, there are two shows currently playing at The Old Globe. The first is The Tempest. Running until the end of July, this is a classic William Shakespeare play directed by Joe Dowling. Then there is The Lorax. Based off of the iconic Dr. Seuss book, this timeless tale will be at The Old Globe Theater until April 12th.

The National Comedy Theater

San Diego Theaters

You also have the opportunity to attend some great improv shows over at the National Comedy Theater. Located at 717 India Street, professional comedians perform 90-minute shows. Whether it be during the week or on a Saturday, these improv comedy shows are filled with nothing but good times and laughter. Do know that they also host improv classes for both teens and adults. Whether you want to sit down and have a laugh or entertain yourself, the National Comedy Theater is the best place to do it.

San Diego Mystery Cafe

Last but certainly not least is the San Diego Mystery Cafe. This interactive Mystery Comedy Theater is known to be one of the best mystery dinner theaters around. It is also one of the first. Your evening here will consist of a murder, a few clues, a three-course meal, and tons of laughter. Unlike other mystery cafes, there is just the perfect amount of audience interaction. That means that you get to sit back, chow down, and enjoy the show. Located on 505 Kalmia Street, performances happen on Friday’s and Saturday’s starting at 7:30 PM and tickets range from $30 to $60.

Lucky for everyone at AV8 there is no shortage of entertainment near Little Italy. From great laughs at comedy clubs, unique mystery dinners to classic shows at a Tony Award-winning theater, San Diego is the perfect place to catch some live performances all year round.
