Over the past few months, we have talked about all the ways to celebrate both Mothers Day and Fathers Day near AV8. Now, it is time to celebrate both parents as it is Parents Day on Sunday, July 22nd.

Parents Day at Birch Aquarium

parents day at birch aquarium

Experience the ocean world with your family over at Birch Aquarium. Pick up snorkel tips and swim with the leopard sharks. Interested in learning more about sea life but do not want to get wet? Then book your tickets for the Kelp Forest Dive Show. If you have already made your way to some of these shows than know that they just opened up a new exhibit. Called Oddities: Hidden Heroes of the Scripps Collections, this exhibit is a comic book-inspired gallery. It highlights the marvelous adaptations of ocean species. No matter what show you go to, the whole family is in for a whirlwind of fun. So dive in and get your tickets now.

Parents Day at Maritime Museum of San Diego

Up next is the Maritime Museum. Established in 1948, this museum preserves one of the largest collections of historic sea vessels in the US. Open every day from 9 AM to 9 PM, there are tons of exhibits and tours that the whole family can enjoy. For instance, there is the Rum: Sailors Pirates and Prohibition exhibit. This interactive gallery tells the story of the new world’s first distilled spirits. It also explores the stories of pirates and American and British sailors. If anyone in the family enjoys photography then stop by the Wind and Water Photography Exhibit. Whatever exhibit you choose, the entire family is going to sea and learn so much!

Parents Day at the Nighttime Zoo

If your time is limited during the day than do not fret. For the summer, Balboa Park has brought back the Nighttime Zoo. Happening daily, the special activities start at 4 PM. It is not until 8 PM when the night adventures begin. Enjoy live music from the Rock and Roar band, the Chameleons Brass band, as well as Jambo. They also have new nighttime features including “Call of the Night.” This show features a 12-minute symphony of live music, lasers, acrobats and more! Best of all, you can return to the Nighttime Zoo after parents day passes as it ends September 3rd.

From zoos, aquariums, and museums, there is no shortage of family fun while living at AV8. So get out there, enjoy your city of San Diego, and have a wonderful Parents Day this weekend.
