AV8 is surrounded by tons of other great towns with a whirlwind of entertainment. So far, we have covered Gaslamp and Oldtown. Now, just seven miles outside of Little Italy is our next destination of fun-filled activities. Known as Coronado Island, this paradise is filled with surf culture, a ferry landing, and a legendary hotel.
Cruise the Area
One of the first things we suggest doing while visiting is quite simple. Rent a bike, have a relaxing day at the beach and tour the island via the beachfront boardwalk. Also, there are tons of shops, restaurants, and galleries all along Orange Avenue.
Coronado Museum of History and Art
For those curious about the history of the island, then make your way over to the Coronado Museum of History and Art. Featured here are two exhibits. The first being The Enchanted Island Exhibit, which includes a collection of historic photographs of life in Coronado during the 1880’s. Then there is the Hotel del Coronado & Tent City. Here you can learn everything about the legendary hotel. Open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM, an entrance fee to this museum is only $5 and free for kids.
The Legendary Hotel of Coronado Island
Last up is Coronado’s historic landmark, Hotel Del Coronado. Built in 1888, this hotel has a history of being a destination for royalty and socialites. That includes the Hollywood icon, Marilyn Monroe. Located at 1500 Orange Avenue, a 1-night stay here is around $320. Want to be a bit more extravagant? Then rent out one of their Cottages or Villas.
Your stay in one of these villas includes a fireplace, exclusive pools, private patios, and highly personalized services. Feeling as though you hopped back in time, Hotel Del Coronado has a magnificent view of the ocean. Resort amenities include a number of ocean-view restaurants and bars, bike and boat rental services, and a spa and salon. Of all the things to do here, nothing is better than spending a day by the ocean while taking advantage of the Del Beach Services.
Well, there you have it. Overall, Coronado Island makes for a fantastic staycation. Additionally, it is an opportunity to learn more about the history of San Diego. Regardless of what you choose to do, Coronado has tons of fun in store for everyone. Have fun!Back To Main
